I propose <strong>a few seconds of local arts news daily.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But what? Other than an events calendar (&#8220;and in arts, last night such-and-such show opened&#8221;) of what would this consist?<\/p>\n<p>Sports is easy: &#8220;The Sabres lost 3-0&#8221;. So what does an arts news snippet sound like? News is when things change, so how does that apply here?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A few ideas:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"text_exposed_show\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Casting<\/strong> announcements \/ changes.\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;And the cast for Equus has been announced&#8230;.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Contest<\/strong> openings\/results.\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;The AV Best of Buffalo nominations are now open.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The i<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fallettacompetition.org\/\">nternational guitar concerto competition<\/a> semi-finals were last night. Looks like Jane Doe of Iceland is&#8230;.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Review<\/strong> announcements.\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Today&#8217;s Buffalo News features a review of Equus. It says&#8230;.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;the NY Times has a review of author <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/08\/19\/books\/review\/the-long-walk-by-brian-castner.html?pagewanted=all&amp;_r=0\">Brian Castner<\/a>&#8216;s book&#8230;.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Any of the many <strong>author visits<\/strong>, signings, lectures.\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;David Henry Hwang <a href=\"http:\/\/www.justbuffalo.org\/babel\/current-season\/#\">spoke at Kleinhans<\/a>. When asked about his process, he said&#8230;.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Interesting productions of local authors&#8217; works:\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a class=\"profileLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/donnahokeplaywright\" data-hovercard=\"\/ajax\/hovercard\/page.php?id=680818558676614\">Donna Hoke, Playwright<\/a> has another one-act production coming up, this time in Kamchatka!&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tour<\/strong> notes:\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a class=\"profileLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/thealbrightsband\" data-hovercard=\"\/ajax\/hovercard\/page.php?id=144559300812\">The Albrights<\/a> played in Brooklyn last night as part of their current tour. According to their Instagram account it was a great show, though the band is of mixed opinions on cronuts.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Sold-out shows, <strong>unusual<\/strong> shows.\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Last night, the Kav was sold-out for Equus.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buffalonews.com\/20130507\/buffalo_fans_follow_bpo_to_carnegie_hall_tonight.html\">BPO played Carnegie Hall <\/a>last night&#8230;&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Business:\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;And such-and-such theater company has a new artistic director&#8230;.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Other interesting <strong>oddities<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;A <a href=\"http:\/\/ladyinterior.com\/post\/95640965665\/paper-art-maude-white\">tumblr post<\/a> featuring the paper-cutting sculpture of local artist Maude White has over 200,000 notes and shares.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a class=\"profileLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/movies\/buffalo-singer-responds-to-storm-with-perfect-103603017857.html\" data-hovercard=\"\/ajax\/hovercard\/user.php?id=779504544\">Michele Marie Benzin<\/a> interviewed by Yahoo for her rendition of&#8230;.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I mean, seriously. Like I care how the Bandits did last night. This would take all of fifteen minutes to compile every morning, especially if you set up a news submissions line. There are so many artists with so many amazing accomplishments in Buffalo. This is at least as newsworthy as a sports team practicing.<\/p>\n<p>BUT&#8230; is being &#8220;in the know&#8221; part of the mystique of the arts scene?
